Title Sequence Analysis:
A) What do the titles tell you about the story or tone of the
film/TV program?
The Punisher - From the given title of this show we as the audience are given
the impression of this show being violent, and with the title being set on one
individual we can tell that this will be set around a violent person. The guns
used in the sequence gives a clear focus for the show being based around
violence and weapons as well as the gunsmoke being shown that resembles a
warshank painting to give a clear impression of the character being unstable.
Game of Thrones - From the title of this show we can understand that is presents
us with an medieval setting through the use of the title. We are presented with
a map throughout the whole sequence to show where the locations will be set
during the show, and as we see these different buildings being created to mark the
individual houses and the most important locations. From the use of the music
and the sequences colour scheme we can understand that this series’s tone will
be serious.
Skyfall - In Skyfall from the title sequence we are presented with images
which makeup James's Bonds character as were shown weapons and women. Were also
shown James Bond falling through the ocean as he reaches the bottom, almost to
emphasize that it’s all slowly falling down for the character and he may be at
his worst.
Captain America: The Winter
Soldier - From the title sequence
of this movie the colour scheme sets for this movies tone for being serious,
from it using black and white silhouettes to represent and separate the good
and bad characters in the movie. As well as using red to emphasize evil. For
each main character we are given a silhouette which helps represent their
importance to the movie.
B) What visual effects were used in making the sequence?
The Punisher - Effects used in the sequence of the title mainly focus around
of guns, these guns being made through cgi software and sometimes animated for
when a gun is fired. Smoke effects are also used to resemble the smoke given
from when a gun is fired; the smoke is moved in a visual way which is then
mirrored to create the look of a warshank painting.
Game of Thrones - The sequence is done completely through cgi as shown from how
the buildings and landscapes are made by slowly rising from the map. The map
was made in a cgi software as the camera pans and zooms around the landscape to
present the map as a larger scale.
Skyfall - This sequence uses multiple images with multiple
representations. Such as James Bond falling down an abyss in the ocean. Were
also shown a women moving around with a duplicated mirrored video to again
create a warshank painting look to show the characters current state. As well
as these moving chinese dragons to refer to the main location of the movie.
Captain America: The Winter
Soldier - This sequence is
completed within a cgi software and then uses still images which have been
created into black, white or red silhouettes. Sometimes the image is slightly
animated as towards near the end with Nick Furry. However most of the time it
would just be the character still in a certain position as the camera moves
around until it finds the opposite colour to changes into the next part of the
sequence.
